A decade ago, the influential business weekly The Economist called Africa “the hopeless continent.” The magazine is now singing a different tune in two recent articles, The Sun Shines Bright and The Hopeful Continent, recognizing that there is a New Africa rising. These emerging realities will change how and what scholars teach about Africa in the coming years. In that spirit, the Africana Studies department will offer a workshop on the new African Market on April 24. It will be open to students, faculty, and SMEs. A delegation of African business and policy leaders are also scheduled to be in Charlotte on April 27-28, 2012. Interested people may contact the Africana Studies department or Follow @UNCC_CLAS on Twitter for information regarding this event as the date draws closer. |
